ConnectBooks gives its users the ability to further classify their products for QuickBooks. Category is the field a user fills in on ConnectBooks. Class is what that category becomes once it reaches QuickBooks.
Adding or editing a category, one at a time:
Navigate to Listings.
Click the QuickBooks Mappings tab.
Find the Category column on the right side of the table. You can add or edit the category directly here, for each product.
Adding categories in bulk, with Excel:
If you want to assign categories to many products at once, it has to be done through the Excel sheet under the Inventory Settings tab, not the QuickBooks Mappings tab. Export the sheet, fill in the Category column for each product, then upload it back in.
The Excel export on the QuickBooks Mappings tab will not let you assign categories at the item level, so bulk changes must go through Inventory Settings instead.
The effect this has in ConnectBooks: In the reports section, a user can select to sort and view their reports using various criteria such as Group by Category, and can thus view their sales grouped and subtotaled by the categories they assigned.
The effect this has in QuickBooks: ConnectBooks creates a Class in QuickBooks for each category a user assigns. This allows users to also view their reports in QuickBooks, those run by Class, organized according to their assigned category as well as by item.
Note: This category is distinct from the category set at the ConnectStock item level. If a seller uses ConnectStock, they will have two separate data points, the category described above, and a separate ConnectStock item category, which is managed on the ConnectStock item level rather than through Listings or Inventory Settings.
