Assigning a Default Class to a Store in QuickBooks or Xero

Give a store a default class in QuickBooks or a tracking category in Xero.

Want to see each store's sales apart in your books? Give the store a default class. Sales, fees and costs ConnectBooks sends from that store get that class.

QuickBooks

  • Go to Stores & Files and click your store. On the Accounting tab, under Accounting Settings, click Settings.

  • On the QuickBooks tab, scroll down and click Configure Advanced Settings.

  • Tick "Use Default Class".

  • In Default Class Name, type the class exactly as it's spelled in QuickBooks.

  • Save.

Xero

In Xero, classes are called tracking categories.

  • Go to Stores & Files and click your store. On the Accounting tab, under Accounting Settings, click Settings.

  • On the Xero tab, scroll down and click Configure Advanced Settings.

  • Tick "Use Default Tracking Category".

  • Pick the Tracking Category, then the Tracking Option.

  • Save.

Frequently asked questions

I don't see "Use Default Tracking Category" in Xero.

Your Xero file has no tracking categories yet. Add one in Xero first, then come back.

It says "No options available for this tracking category".

Add options to that tracking category in Xero.

How do I stop using it?

Untick the box and save. New exports stop putting the class on every line. In QuickBooks, if you also track classes, clear Default Class Name before you untick, or fee lines may still get it.
