What are Shopify Gateways?

Payment gateways like PayPal are a form of payment that a buyer can choose when purchasing from a Shopify store. ConnectBooks organizes orders by payment gateway to make it easier to reconcile.

What are Shopify Apps?

Shopify allows users to import orders from external marketplaces such as Target and Amazon. Additionally, Shopify treats free orders as a separate app. These are orders without a linked payment, often due to various reasons. It's important to track these orders for inventory and cost management. We organize them based on the Shopify integration responsible for the order.

Here are some examples:

  1. Draft Orders: Created by a Shopify store admin, usually a free order.

  2. Online Store: Created by customers using a promo code for a full discount.

  3. Point of Sale (POS): Created via Shopify's POS system.

  4. Imported Orders: Orders imported from external sources, such as Target or Amazon, through integrations into Shopify, We categorize them based on the specific integration app responsible for importing them since they don't have associated payment information. These orders might lack transaction details. but despite their absence, these orders might still be important to managing inventory and cogs.

Note: We don't recommend enabling them if we already sync directly with the marketplace to avoid duplicate data.

All payment gateways are enabled by default, while only three apps — Draft Orders, Online Store, and POS—are enabled to ensure accurate inventory and cogs tracking.

Managing App Gateways:

Shopify apps and payment gateways can be managed on the Shopify Advanced Settings Page. If a gateway or app is enabled, ConnectBooks will process and sync the data.
