To check that ConnectBooks has the right Google Ads spend, run a report in Google Ads and compare its total with the Ads Spend total in ConnectBooks.
Which Google report you run depends on the dates you are checking.
Pick the right report for your dates
October 15, 2026 and later — run ad spend by campaign. The full total should match ConnectBooks. Use Option 1.
July 1 to October 14, 2026 — run total ad spend by type, and leave out the Performance Max row. Use Option 2.
Before July 2026 — run total ad spend by type, and compare only the Shopping row. Use Option 2.
If your date range crosses one of these dates, split it into two ranges and check each one with its own report. For example, check October 1–14 with Option 2 and October 15–31 with Option 1.
Why the dates matter
ConnectBooks has brought in more types of Google Ads spend over time:
From October 15, 2026 — all Google Ads spend, including Performance Max.
July 1 to October 14, 2026 — all Google Ads spend except Performance Max.
Before July 2026 — Shopping and product ads only.
So for older dates, you need a report that breaks spend down by type, so you can leave out the types ConnectBooks did not bring in yet.
Option 1: October 15, 2026 and later
Step 1: Get the total from ConnectBooks
Open the P&L report in ConnectBooks.
Select the store your Google Ads account is connected to, and your date range.
Find the Ads Spend total.
Step 2: Run the report in Google Ads
Open Google Ads.
Go to Insights & Reports → Reports Editor.
Under generate report, enter ad spend by campaign.
Set the same date range you used in ConnectBooks.
Make sure the report is shown as a table.
The report lists every campaign with its cost, and a Total row at the bottom.
Step 3: Compare the totals
Compare the Total in the Cost column with the Ads Spend total in ConnectBooks. They should match.
You don't need to filter by campaign type. Use the total for all campaigns.
Option 2: Before October 15, 2026
Step 1: Get the total from ConnectBooks
Open the report in ConnectBooks.
Select the store your Google Ads account is connected to, and your date range.
Find the Ads Spend total.
Step 2: Run the report in Google Ads
Open Google Ads.
Go to Insights & Reports → Reports Editor.
Under generate report, enter total ad spend by type.
Set the same date range you used in ConnectBooks.
Make sure the report is shown as a table.
The report shows one row for each type of ad, such as Shopping, Search, and Performance Max.
Step 3: Compare only the types ConnectBooks brought in
July 1 to October 14, 2026 — add up the cost of every row except Performance Max. That number should match ConnectBooks.
Before July 2026 — compare only the Shopping row. That number should match ConnectBooks.
How Performance Max shows in ConnectBooks
Google Ads shows each Performance Max campaign as one cost. ConnectBooks splits that cost in two:
The part Google ties to specific products shows as product ad spend on those items.
The rest — video, display, and search ads that aren't tied to one product — shows as one Performance Max amount.
Together, these add up to the campaign's cost in Google Ads, and nothing is counted twice. Because of this split, compare totals, not one campaign line against another.
Frequently asked questions
My date range crosses October 15, 2026. What do I do?
Split it into two ranges. Check the days up to October 14 with Option 2, and the days from October 15 with Option 1.
ConnectBooks shows less than Google for dates before October 15.
That is expected. ConnectBooks did not bring in Performance Max spend before October 15, 2026. Use Option 2 and leave out the Performance Max row.
ConnectBooks shows little or no Google spend for my earliest dates.
Check the Start Date set for your store on the Google Ads integration. ConnectBooks only imports ad spend from that date onward, so days before it will show little or no spend in ConnectBooks even though Google has it.
To check it, go to Integrations, find Google Ads under Advertising, and look at the Start Date next to your store. ConnectBooks can import up to 15 months of history. Changing the Start Date to an earlier date makes ConnectBooks import from the new date on its next sync, so days that were never imported will come in. Dates that were already imported and are more than about two weeks old won't change — contact support for those.
ConnectBooks shows more than Google.
Check the filters at the top of the Google report. Google Ads hides removed campaigns by default, with a filter like Campaign state is Enabled, Paused. If a campaign spent money in your date range and was removed later, its spend is in ConnectBooks but not in the Google total. Remove that filter, or add Removed to it, and compare again.
The last few days don't match.
Google keeps adjusting recent spend for a while, for example when it credits back invalid clicks. ConnectBooks re-checks the last 14 days on every sync and picks up those changes, including spend Google takes back. If you compare right after Google makes a change, ConnectBooks catches up on its next sync.
Spend shows on a different day than I expect.
ConnectBooks uses the dates Google reports, which follow your Google Ads account's time zone. If that is different from your store's time zone, spend close to midnight can land on the next or previous day.
The totals are a few cents apart.
ConnectBooks rounds each product's spend to the cent for each day. Google rounds the report total once. Over a long date range this can leave a difference of a few cents. Anything bigger is worth reporting.
I see Performance Max spend in two places in ConnectBooks. Is it counted twice?
No. Part of it shows on the products Google tied it to, and the rest shows as one Performance Max amount. The two parts add up to the campaign's cost in Google Ads.
Still seeing a difference? Send our support team the store, the date range, and both totals from the chat icon in ConnectBooks, and we will look into it.
