Advertising per product in QuickBooks

When the Amazon Advertising account is linked in ConnectBooks, ConnectBooks pulls the itemized spending data available from Amazon, and brings in all Sponsored Products expenses divided by class as well.

Advertising spending deducted from the actual Settlement amount is imported as the sum amount deducted with “Amazon Fees” as the class.

We recommend that sellers also record their credit card spending for Amazon sponsored products with the same Amazon Fees class. This gives more clarity in the reports.

Note - ConnectBooks does not record the advertising charges charged to a credit card, because most sellers vary the credit cards they use.

ConnectBooks then brings in with your settlement data a separate “Wash” invoice. This means an invoice with a balance of $0 to bring in the advertising spending itemized by class.

How this works:

On the first line of this invoice, there is a service item called Sponsored Products with a negative (minus) amount for the total Advertising spent for the period outlined in the description field. The class for this line is Amazon Fees. After that first line with the total spent (as a deduction), there are more lines (as many as the items advertised during that period) with the same “Sponsored Product” item code, but each line represents the advertising spent for a different item, with the correct class in the right-side column. The total balance at the end of the invoice is $0 as the minus on the first line reflects the total of all the amounts divided by item classes.
