How to connect ChatGPT to ConnectBooks (MCP)

Use the ConnectBooks MCP server to ask ChatGPT about your sales, profit, payouts, inventory and purchasing.

Connect ChatGPT to ConnectBooks so you can ask questions about your business in plain language. ChatGPT can only read your data. It can't change anything.

Before you start

  • You need a paid ChatGPT plan: Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu.

  • Use ChatGPT in your browser at chatgpt.com. This won't work in the mobile app.

  • AI apps must be turned on for your ConnectBooks account. The account owner can turn them on in AI apps, then Settings.

  • If you aren't the account owner, ask the owner to give you the AI Connections and Profit Report permissions in Users. To ask about other reports, like settlements or inventory, you also need access to those reports.

Step 1: Copy the server URL

The server URL is https://mcp.connectbooks.com/mcp. You can copy it from here, or from ConnectBooks:

  1. In ConnectBooks, open Integrations.

  2. Under AI apps, click Connect on the ChatGPT card.

  3. Click Copy.

Step 2: Add ConnectBooks in ChatGPT

  1. Open Plugins in ChatGPT.

  2. Click Add, then Add custom MCP server.

  3. Type ConnectBooks as the name.

  4. Paste the URL into Server URL.

  5. Choose OAuth for authentication.

  6. Click I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin.

  7. A ConnectBooks page opens. Sign in, then click Allow.

That's it. ChatGPT now shows on the AI apps page.

What ChatGPT can see

ChatGPT reads these ConnectBooks reports and pages:

P&L reports

  • Standard P&L Report: sales, refunds, fees, ads, cost of goods, profit, ROI and margin. By SKU, ASIN, parent ASIN or inventory item, and by store, category, fulfillment channel and more. If you use ConnectStock, also by brand and vendor. It can add ACOS, TACOS, page views, sessions, conversion rate and Buy Box percent.

  • Comparison P&L Report: the same numbers split by day, week, month, quarter or year, so ChatGPT can see what changed.

  • Order P&L Report: single orders with their fees, cost and profit, including refunds and replacements.

Settlements

  • Payouts from each store, with the payout date.

Amazon FBA reports

  • FBA Restock Report: what to send to FBA, how many units and by when.

  • FBA Aging Report: inventory age, estimated storage fees and sales rank.

  • FBA Return Report: returns with reasons and the most returned products.

ConnectStock (only if you use ConnectStock)

  • Inventory Summary Report: units on hand and inventory value by warehouse.

  • Inventory Forecasting Report: what to reorder from your vendors and when.

  • Inventory Turnover Report: turnover, days in stock, slow movers and dead stock.

  • Purchasing: bills, vendor credits and purchase orders.

  • Sales: invoices, credit memos and sales orders.

ChatGPT can also look up products by SKU, ASIN or title, see which listings are mapped to an inventory item, and find your customers and vendors.

ChatGPT only sees the stores and reports you can see in ConnectBooks.

ChatGPT can't see line items on bills, invoices or orders, inventory adjustments and transfers, assemblies, item cost history, or sync status. Check those in the ConnectBooks app.

Step 3: Ask a question

Open a new chat in ChatGPT and ask what you want to know. ChatGPT uses ConnectBooks on its own: it pulls the reports it needs, compares them and explains the answer. Name a store, product or date range, or let ChatGPT use your default dates.
